Lucinda Mudge builds her shows slowly, living with a body of work in the studio for close to a year before it becomes an exhibition. In Collectors at Everard Read, that slow process becomes part of the subject.
The show includes ceramics whose colours and finishes didn’t always come out of the kiln the way she expected, alongside bookshelf paintings assembled piece by piece. Books, objects and fragments pile up into something closer to an inventory of a life than a still life. Mudge widens the idea of collecting to the people and possessions that gather around us, disappear or stay.
A thoughtful, beautifully made show, and free to visit.
